Regulate Immune T Cells to Win Psoriasis!

Psoriasis is a non-contagious skin disorder that most commonly appears as inflamed swollen skin lesions covered with silvery white scale. Among several types of Psoriasis, there is Plaque Psoriasis, which is characterized by raised, inflamed (red) lesions covered with a silvery white scale. The scale is actually a buildup of dead skin cells. There is also Guttate Psoriasis characterized by small red dots of psoriasis, which may have some scales. Psoriasis is a chronic skin condition, which usually begins before age 35 and is characterized by thick, red, scaly patches that itch and bleed. Although it is a genetic disease, it is not completely understood how it is inherited. However, there are at least eight chromosomes to date that researchers have identified as being linked to the genetic transmission of the disease.

The most commonly prescribed methotrexate can be very effective with even the most severe cases of psoriasis. Methotrexate works by competitively inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase, which decreases the production of folic acid thus blocking DNA synthesis and cell division. While therapies focused on the immune system are proving highly beneficial for many psoriasis patients, therapies that target the vascular system might also one day provide relief to those facing this challenging, and often debilitating, disease. It has been previously observed that blood vessel network in the skin, are altered in psoriasis. An essential regulator of vascular development produced by skin cells, called VEGF or Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor, is found in high levels in psoriatic skin lesions. Psoriasis patients can hope that drugs that block the activity of VEGF - 'anti-VEGF' therapies - may one day be used to treat psoriasis, much the same way that anti-VEGF therapies are currently being tested in clinical trials as a cancer treatment.

An integrative approach is particularly useful for considering the whole patient. Integrated care and patient wellness are especially important considering recent news about health risks associated with psoriasis. Having psoriasis is really stressful for the patient. When lesions are visible, people may stare and not want to get near. Even a spouse, parents, children, friends, and co-workers can be visibly uncomfortable. Ayurveda can help to win this skin condition if you are willing to take long term ayurvedic treatment mainly consists of detox Panch Karma procedures along with Psoro-rasayana, a newly developed ayurvedic formula have shown promising results in a five years clinical study at Central Medical Institute.
